About

The Lincoln Library and Medicine Lodge digital history project started by accident, as any good project usually does. When the library hired a new director in 2016, one of the first things she did was to tackle the closets and storage areas; there she found a gold mine of library history.  After being approached by the family of a former librarian who had recently passed, the director began creating an historical timeline to assist the family in verifying the dates of her employment. Soon after, Lincoln Library was chosen as one of 52 libraries across the country to participate in the Public Library Association Inclusive Internship Initiative for the summer of 2018.  This internship is sponsored by the Institute for Museums and Libraries and gave Lincoln Library the opportunity to hire an intern for the summer.  One of the requirements of the program was for the intern to complete a connected learning project.  The project chosen was the challenge of digitizing the library history and so it has taken flight on its way to becoming reality. Eventually, the plan is to open the digitization project to include the history of the area, recording the wealth of Peace Treaty and other historical information available.  One of the most exciting but daunting aspects of this project is, there is no end.
